Collins has produced unmatched clarity of image which makes this book no less than a movie-like a literary roller coaster. It is not one of those books out there which have a lot to say but run unleashed; it has every single word for a meaning. A series of emotional twists and turns combined with a lot of action keep this book flowing. The reader feels pity for the number of misfortunes casted constantly on Katniss while still feeling strongly about her as she displays courage each time. Readers who crave for frequent ups and downs in the plot are going to love this book. It is sure to attract readers from all age and interest for it contains every single aspect of life one can think of. Factors of ebbing emotions, fear, love, irony, tricks, and rebellion keep the adrenaline rushing through.
Katniss Everdeen, a sixteen year old girl is the lead character and narrator in this novel. She lives in one of the 12 districts in the nation of Panem, in the ruins of North America. Katniss volunteers in place of her little sister for the 74th Hunger Games organized and live telecasted by the Capitol as a punishment for a previous rebellion by the districts. A girl and a boy are selected by casting lots from each district who fight each other to death and the last person remaining wins the Games.
Peeta had once saved Katniss and her family when they were starving. And she has promised her younger sister that she’d win for her. Whether she tries to return the favour to Peeta or keeps the promise; flip through the book to find out.
